This COMBI course is combining the LFA & “Workshopping” module with the Monitoring & Evaluation module and offers a more elaborate package of the planning procedure. The first half of the course will be focussing on the techniques and processes on how to design an intervention using a simulation of a faciltated participatory workshop approach. The second half will focus on how to design a monitoring plan and identify indicators.
LFA & “Workshopping” module (first 3 days)
Participants will understand the reasoning behind the GOPP planning procedure to design and formulate an intervention (tender), be able to apply the essential techniques (logic trees & LogFrames), have experienced to moderate a group and leave with an attitude to involve and listen to beneficiaries and other stakeholders in the process.
This is a specialised module on how to design and formulate an intervention (tender) applying the GOPP / LFA procedure. A simulation will be done of a participatory workshop on a case. Moderation is practised by the participants in turn. Both the LFA planning procedure and the facilitated workshop process with participants defending different interests will be studied and practised. Duos will design their own projects and master the visualisation techniques.
Monitoring & Evaluation module (4th and 5th day)
Participants will experience the large scope of components an M&E plan has, and receive hints on how to address challenges of reaching a commonly agreed plan. Moreover they will be clear on terminology, concepts and methodologies. A clear-cut procedure to identify indicators is core in the module.
This module deals with techniques and approaches both applicable to monitoring, mid-term and ex post evaluations. Evaluation analyses the whole cycle, compares the initial plan with what is actually taking place or has taken place, assessing at the same time the quality of the initial plan and, in the case of the mid-term evaluation, how the current plan could be adjusted and improved according changes which may have occurred since the initial plan or Logframe.
The core content of our Monitoring & Evaluation module includes:
- Design of the monitoring plan (in the form of a LogFrame)
- The reconstruction of the understanding of the design of the intervention through the `famous` ex-ante Assessment Technique
- Practice the formulation of different indicators (Results, Purpose and ASSUMPTIONS
- The COMBI course has some theory but aims at being very practical and at encouraging communication and the sharing of experience between participants from different organisations. Thus group work and presentation is a major pedagogical aspect of the course.
