“Why have we not done this six years earlier ?”
… that is what the CEO commented after a workshop of just one day, in which Erik facilitated the release of many build-up frustrations that blocked the co-workers from different Departments.
Together we discussed and analysed their causal relationships and prioritised the issues at stake.
We brainstormed solutions from which we all selected and agreed how to go ahead….
… and everybody was impressed at the end that we finally talked about their frustrations and regained new energy to perform even better than ever before.
Management learnt that solving problems that are experienced by a few requires mutual understanding of those problems by others to trigger their collaboration to contribute to the solution. Just giving out orders and directives does not have that effect….
They realised that the each staff member holds a ‘piece of the puzzle’ either seen as a problem or in terms of a solution. It is key to success to see the total picture of both and their inter-relationships.
An independent external facilitator can help, through ‘impersonalisation’ of the problems and solutions, by making people share their perceptions and feelings and in making that total picture visible.
